This page explains what information the Arcade & Pinball Repair Wiki collects and how it's used. The short version: we collect as little as we can, we don't sell anything to anyone, and there are no ads or trackers.

Reading the wiki

You can read everything without an account.

  • Server logs: Like nearly every website, our web server records basic visit information: your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser type, and the time. These logs are used only to keep the site running and to stop abuse.
  • Cookies: The wiki uses a few small cookies to keep you logged in and remember basic settings. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
  • No ads, no analytics: We don't run ads or third-party tracking scripts.

Creating an account

To add or edit content, you need an account.

  • Username: Your username is public and appears next to everything you edit. Don't use your real name unless you want to.
  • Password: Stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. We can't see it.
  • Email (optional): Used only for password resets and notifications you choose to turn on. It's never shown publicly or shared.

What you post is public

Everything you add, including repairs, edits, comments, and uploaded photos or PDFs, is public, along with your username and the time you posted. The full history of every page is kept, so earlier versions of your edits remain visible in the page history.

Photos and uploads

Phone photos often contain hidden details, such as the GPS location where the photo was taken. The wiki doesn't display these details on file pages, but they may still be inside the original file if someone downloads it. Before uploading photos taken at home, turn off location in your camera settings or remove it from the photo. On most phones, you can do this from the share screen or the photo's info panel.

Outside services

  • YouTube: Repair pages can show YouTube videos. The video itself doesn't load until you click it, but the preview image is loaded from YouTube when you open the page. Once you click play, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
  • Hosting: The site is hosted by Akamai (Linode) on servers in the United States.
  • Outside links: Links to other websites, including vendors, are covered by those sites' own policies.

Your choices

  • You can change or remove your email address any time in Preferences.
  • If you'd like your account closed, email us. Because wiki history is public and shared, your past edits stay in page history, but we can rename the account and remove your email.
